Ruthie the Writer

A few years ago I began the process of writing three crime thrillers. All set in the orthodox Jewish community of North West London. Even though I have now moved on to other projects, these crime thrillers represent the flagship of my most recent fiction writing.

One detective. Colin Sommers, once a religious Jew, at the start of Dark Tapestry alienated from his faith and his family. We follow his life journey in this trilogy of spine tingling novels.

Dark Tapestry. 8 yr old Josh Hardman is abducted from a religious family and DI Sommers finds himself once more in the world he had fought so hard to escape. He is later joined by New York forensic scientist Leora Jakober who proves more than a match for Colin, in more senses than one.

The Movement. Another wierd case for Colin and Leora when a young woman confesses to having killed someone, but there is no one missing, and no evidence of any murder.

Carers Ltd. Can an apparently benevolent agency supplying carers for the sick, and baby nurses for new mothers, be a front for something much more sinister? Colin and Leora investigate.

Try and read the three thrillers in order as, even though they are each independent stories, they do follow the life journeys of Colin and Leora and it would be a shame to start at the end!

I have written enough about the dim and distant past and how I became a writer. If you don't know about that now, you can email me and find out. Right now I am more interested in the present, and the future. I am enjoying a very happy relationship with Targum, my publishers. They are in Jerusalem, where we spend many weeks a year, so it is very convenient for me. I have (I hope!) a good working relationship with the team there, and my editor Mimi Zakon, which I hope will go from strength to strength.

It is very important to have trust in your publishers, and for them to have trust in you as a writer, that you can deliver the goods. I think with Targum I have this. If you want to buy these books on the Internet, please go to their site, click on this! and do a search on my name, Ruthie Pearlman. They can get the books to you quickly and at a competitive price. You can also read excerpts on line to give you a taster! I am sure they would be happy to publish a review if you submitted one too.

My most recent novel; (published about 3 yrs ago) is called "Against the Wall"; and is on the subject of Jewish teenagers at risk. It is a very powerful and important topic, important too, that I got it right and didn't let down the many teens who have told me their stories. I did a lot of research and, while it is not a definitive text on the subject, it does certainly, I hope, tell the story I want it to tell. It's called "Against the Wall", a title which has 3 meanings. A kid with his back against the wall has nowhere to go, he's trapped. Also a typical idea of a teen with attitude is a kid leaning against a wall, looking sullenly out on a world that seems to have turned against him. And thirdly, the Wailing Wall, our holiest site, is known as "The Wall". Someone who is "against the wall" could be seen as being against our faith.

Unfortunately I haven't had the motivation or desire to write any books since that one. I wish I did, but I don't. Hopefully it will return soon.

My older publications.(late 1980's to early 1990's).

You might find these books still available at Eichlers in New York, or on their website. click on this!

The trilogy:
Working it Out
Getting it Right
Making it Last
Daniel My Son (a fictional account of our experiences as foster parents)

All the above published by CIS in Lakewood, New Jersey, USA.

Unfortunately the less than scrupulous behaviour of the publishers in Lakewood gave me a monumental writers block which lasted almost ten years. It hurts like a knife in my gut when I hear they are still selling my books, because I don't see the fruits of my labours. As I said, trust in your publishers is important.

Mail me if you would like more details of my work.
